Home mushroom growing is full of various techniques, often called "teks", which have been developed in order to bring order, consistency, and repeatability to the process.

It is not nescessary for the beginning grower to know and use all, or even most of these techniques, but they are a good way to grow and expand your knowledge of mushroom propagation. With the right set of techniques, you can preserve your cultures indefinitely, clone the best mushrooms, germinate spores, create your own substrates and more.
